Netflix’s Mindhunter Season 1 Recap
Director David Fincher is known as the master of crime thrillers and rightly so – he has given us films like Gone Girl, Zodiac and Seven. His first Netflix show, Mindhunter is another such masterpiece. The show is unlike any other crime show because it studies the psychology of serial killers and what motivates to commit such heinous crimes.

With Season 2 out tomorrow, we decided to do a brief recap of the previous season. Catch up before you begin binging!

Set in the 1970s, the show follows three primary characters – FBI Agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench and psychology professor Wendy Carr. These three join forces to set up the Behavioural Science Unit to study the minds of serial killers. The first task at hand? Holden and Bill have to travel through the country to meet and interview as many serial killers as possible.

Through their travels, Holden and Bill are also training local cops and helping them with their current cases. The most memorable interaction in Season 1 is their interaction with the killer Edmund Kemper. Out of the duo, Holden is the more involved one, but possibly the one who gets too lost in his work, resulting in damage to his personal and professional life both. Holden often immerses himself to the killers, stooping down to their level to get them to open up, which seems unethical. In times like this Bill holds him back and manages to ground him.

But, Ed Kemper develops an obsession with Holden and begins to write letters to him. In a shocking scene at the end, Holden visits Kemper in the hospital after he attempts to kill himself and Kemper embraces Holden in a terrifying manner and Holden has a panic attack on the hospital floor.

Cracks also develop between Bill and Holden as Bill voices concerns about Holden’s methods to the authorities and Holden feels betrayed by his partner. Throughout the season, we also see little snippets of the ill-famed BTK killer. We could assume that the second season would give us an insight into him, along with Charles Manson as mentioned in the Season 2 trailer.

Mindhunter Season 2 is streaming on Netflix on August 16th, 2019.
